On Thursday the 27th June 2013, The Gambia Tourism Board in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism and Culture in efforts to revitalize the tourism industry .Through increased engagement with destination partners, in a work shop which was held at Senegambia Hotel.
Heading the work shop was the Minister of Tourism Mrs. Fatou Mass , the DG of the Gambia Tourism Board Mr.Benjamin Roberts, the head of the TTAG Mr.Charbell Hobeika, Mrs. Lizzy Jallow chairwoman of the Gambia Hotels Association and other important key players in the Tourism Sector were present at the workshop.
The Agenda of the work shop was to assess through dialogue the performance of the previous and current tourist season in efforts to appreciate the challenges of the industry with the objectives of agreeing on possible solutions and implementation plans to overcome the challenges. To discuss and share ideas on how to elongate the tourist season with efforts to move The Gambia as an all year Tourist destination. Further more to enhance the relationship amongst the various destination stakeholders, for improved collaboration and success of The Gambia in emerging global trends and to also discuss other business of relevance to the stake holders of the industry.
Last year we saw an increase in the percentage of tourist buy 2%.A survey was done and 53% of the tourist coming to The Gambia come by searching on the internet. The GTB will be pushing more to boost tourism via the Internet to sell destination Gambia in this area according to the GTB’s Director of Marketing.
Many issues were discussed on ways to better the experience of tourist at the Banjul Int Airport. The bumpster issues, the Tourism Development Area. Members of the crafts Market Federation spoke on the challenges they faced along with the tourist taxi association, Bird watchers association and the tourism security unit also spoke about their performances in the past years season ,the challenges and how to improve for the coming year.
