The Ebola Free Gambia group is a group of mostly young Gambians committed to raising awareness on the deadly disease and preventing its outbreak in the country. They announced on Wednesday that they have secured partnership with the Future Awards Africa 2014.
The Future Africa Awards and Summit is the continent’s most prestigious youth award that celebrates the remarkable achievements of young and emerging African leaders across several high potential sectors. The Award, identifies and rewards innovators, entrepreneurs and ingenious individuals working to transform their societies. The 2014 award ceremony is scheduled to take place in Lagos, Nigeria on 7th December, with a focus on getting one million young Africans involved in the fight against Ebola, leveraging on Africa’s best resource, its people. As part of the activities for this year’s awards, a fundraising campaign was launched in November, and all funds will be channeled through legitimate and active organizations on the forefront of the fight against Ebola.The group, recognized for its tremendous efforts in raising awareness about Ebola through various advocacy platforms, , has also been invited to the award ceremony in Lagos, to support the cause and share experiences from the sensitization campaigns embarked upon thus far. A 6-member delegation is expected to represent the group at the award ceremony this December, and preparations are ongoing for a successful participation at this auspicious gathering.
Ebola Free Gambia partners and supporters have taken a proactive role in contributing to this trip, through donations in various forms, to ensure the expenses are covered and The Gambia is well-represented at this global platform. This is especially important as we work together to promote an Ebola-free country, in the midst of the adverse economic and social effects of the Ebola outbreak in the West African region.
The Ebola Free Gambia initiative is a partnership between Fong4Life and Global Shapers Community Banjul Hub. Whose mission is to educate the public about Ebola, with the aim of protecting our country against this tragic virus-disease that has gravely affected parts of West Africa for the past months, and has now spread beyond the African continent. They believe that mass public education and effective sensitization is critical in the fight against the spread of Ebola.
The group welcomes all the support it can get from individuals and corporate bodies to further strengthen the impact of our work, for the greater good of our country.
