The announcement that one of the world’s most celebrated dancehall stars Sizzla Kolonji, Mataburaka and Erykah Badu alongside others would grace this year’s 11 edition of the International Roots Homecoming Festival.
The Roots homecoming festival serves as a connecting point for Africans and those in the Diaspora. It also serves as a good opportunity to reflect on the slave trade that show millions of Africans being taken across the Atlantic ocean to what was then referred to as the new world. The Roots festival takes you on a journey of heritage and culture.
Organized by the Government of the Gambia through the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, the event slated for May 10th 2014 according to sources will be another breathtaking occasion g. So far renowned Jamaican artists such as Sizzla Kolonji, Mutabaruka, Scratchylus, Empress,as well as young upcoming artists including, Mystic Crew and Jah Prento among a host of others have confirmed their readiness to take part in the event.
Some of these artists have already visited The Gambia, and are already familiar with the country. This year there will be a strong delegation coming from England and USA. So everyone is excited about this Roots Homecoming festival. This year, there will be a symposium that will comprise of panelists who will dilate extensively on the theme of the festival. Gambians, especially music fans should get set for the programme, as it promotes the up-liftment of Africans and people of African descent throughout the world.
