Hundreds of Gambians from Scandinavia and other parts of Europe are expected to converge on the Swedish capital, Stockholm from June 22nd-29th, 2013, to take part another week long Gambian Cultural Festival.
Initiated by the Organisation of Gambians in Stockholm (OGIS), the event show cases the rich and diverse cultural heritage of The Gambia in particular and west Africa in general with a view to promoting Unity and understanding among Gambians and other nationals. The event held in June annually in the Swedish capital highlights Gambian talents in sports, arts, culture and history in different forms and manners. The event further creates the platform for Gambians all over Scandinavia and other parts of Europe to meet and discuss issues pertinent to their welfare.
The Gambian Cultural Week is the biggest and most popular annual program in the Gambian-Swedish community. The festival was initially restricted to football matches and music concerts, but in recent years, the Cultural Week has evolved to a major captivating event. Past events were characterized with musical performance by some of the finest Gambian musicians and this year would surely be no exception.
