The Coconut Residence Hotel, which was closed for sometime to refurbish the place, has now taken a new look and transformed to what they called, ‘The New Coconut Residence Hotel’. This unique and newly transformed hotel, which is now ready for full operation, was officially open by the vice-president of the Republic of the Gambia, Her Excellency, Dr Aja Isatou Njie Saidy on February 21st 2014.
As part of celebration marking the opening of the hotel, the proprietor and the hotel management invited Nigerian musician, called ‘Flavor’ to perform live at the opening of the hotel, and hold a public show on Saturday, February 22nd at the Independence Stadium in Bakau which was packed full!
Kaycee Kennedy, the proprietor of the hotel disclosed that among their strategies, is to position The Gambia as a destination of choice and The New Coconut Residence is just one phase of their project called ‘Destination Gambia’. Having believed in the advancement of the country and ready to take The Gambia to higher heights in the entertainment, tourism and hospitality sectors, Kennedy said, they need to position the country as a destination within the West Africa Region.
He noted that ‘The New Coconut Residence Hotel’ and the management are looking forward to partnering with the government to develop, support and provide infrastructure as to make it a destination of choice. The proprietor admitted that Africans and West Africans, in particular should not travel for six or hours outside of Africa in search of leisure, “hence leisure can be provided within our shores.”
He explained that the hotel is unique in its activities as it tries to deviate from the European tourism, but looking at promoting Africa and West African tourism.
