The Third Edition of the Women Advance Forum will commence today, May 26th, 2014 at the Kairaba Beach Hotel, bringing together over 200 delegates including three African First Ladies and wives of the governors of the states of Ogun, Rivers and Bauchi in the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The First Ladies of the Union of Comoros, Senegal, Burundi, the World Bank regional director, the representatives of the International Monetary Fund, United Nations Commission for Women in New York, senators from various countries, intellectuals, entrepreneurs have all made it to The Gambia from Friday through Sunday ahead of today’s opening.
The opening ceremony today is expected to be graced by the First Lady of the Republic, Her Excellency, Zainab Jammeh, whilst Vice President Aja Dr. Isatou Njie-Saidy is also expected to be in attendance.The Gambia is the first country in the sub-region and the third globally to host the Forum after Germany and South Africa.
Under the theme “Empower a woman – give the world a future beyond Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)”, the Forum is being facilitated in The Gambia by the former speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Fatoumatta Jahumpa-Ceesay. Its objectives, among other things, are to advocate for the advancement of women and ensure that they are inspired and motivated in all sectors, particularly in business, societal issues and politics.
