3D Gam, 3D Global on Wednesday donated human rights materials and drug awareness items to the Gambia Armed Forces (GAF).

The donation was aimed at equipping GAF to promote human rights and the rule of law in the country.

3D Gam, part of 3D and 3D Global is a registered foundation in The Gambia with the sole aim of improving the lives of the disadvantaged people within communities, especially in rural Gambia.

Speaking at a ceremony organized at the GAF HQ to present the items, the Country Director of 3DGAM Foundation, Alasan Bah, said the onus of developing The Gambia rests on everyone be it a civilian or a member of the military.

“It is a collective responsibility to build this country whether you are a civilian or an officer. We deemed it necessary to donate these items to GAF to help them equip the officers with regard to human rights and the rule of law,” he pointed out.

Bah explained that the donated items included 50 packages of human rights booklets,15 boxes of complete packages with DVDs, a training manual book, 1400 drug awareness booklets, 1230 human rights booklets and 60 packets of drugs.“This is a dream fulfilled by our institution, understanding that we are in a security sector reform and in making sure that there is security reform, we also have to be intellectually equipped in a sense to educate ourselves on the issues we do daily,” he stated.

He pointed out that his foundation was delighted to associate with the army.

“The army is part of the institutions that we want to make sure are equipped with these materials to make sure The Gambia is promoted in terms of human rights and rule of law,” Bah explained.

The Coordinator of 3DGAM, Adama Cham, who doubles as the senior education officer in the Lower River Region, said: “We teach children in human rights affairs. We give them books and they also put those issues in drama form and poems to help them understand issues. We have a platform that we use to share information in a case of human rights violation…what will be the methodology to use because we all know that learning starts from schools.”“When the grassroots is level, our work becomes easy.We also deal with communities and I can assure you that people are understanding human rights in schools and communities,” Cham explained.
