The Brikama Area Council has recently inaugurated the newly constructed market at the Nyofeleh Community in the West Coast Region.

The construction of the market was funded by the Council under the leadership of its Chief Executive Officer, Modou Jonga, and Chairman, Sherifo Sonko through the ward allocation fund. It was implemented by the ward development and it can accommodate twenty vendors which is a community driven-project

In a similar development, the Kartong Ward Councilor also handed over a solar-powered borehole to the community of Madina Salam which was funded and drilled by GAMMOL, at a ceremony that was attended by the village authorities, the Councilor of Gunjur Ward, members of the Kartong Ward Development Committee, and a cross-section of the ward beneficiaries among others.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Lamin Singhateh, deputizing the Chairman of Brikama Area Council underscored the Council’s commitment to providing such infrastructural development to communities. He said the ceremony marked another milestone achievement for both Council and the community as it fulfilled strategy priority (4) of the council 5 years strategy plan, adding that the project was the first of its kind in the community.

However, Singhateh called on the community for timely payment of taxes to enable Council to provide efficient service delivery.

For his part, Abubacarr Kanteh, the Kartong Ward Councilor expressed his delights to the Council’s management for funding the project, saying two to three years ago, the Council sent a revolution of which every Ward should be allocated D500,000 for the ward development project for their imitative and development within their wards.

Adding that criteria were set for such ward to benefit from the fund and the development committee has met the criteria from which they applied for the fund and was lucky to secure the D500, 000.
