A Justice Ministry document that was authored and signed by Cherno Marenah, the former Solicitor General and Legal Secretary, in relation to the “Resource mobilization for the case against Myanmar at the international court of justice (ICJ) in the Hague, has been leaked, Freedom Newspaper can reveal. The document further stated: “You will recall that the OIC has already processed the payment of the first instalment of US$300,000 to Foley Hoag Legal Firm in respect of the ICJ case. Given that this only represents a small fraction of the outstanding amount, there is an urgent need to increase the amount paid to the Legal Firm.”
Mr. Marenah was removed from his post last year and redeployed to the Foreign Service. He is yet to assume foreign service duties.
“Accordingly, we kindly request the payment of a further sum of US$700,000 to Foley Hoag and the first instalment of US$200,0000 honorarium to the Gambian local team, from the OIC Special Account opened for the ICJ case,” the document further stated.
The correspondence dated December 17th, 2020 was addressed to the Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
