By a person claiming to be an anonymous officer at the police HQS

Within a space of about 24 hours three libellous articles were published in your newspaper on AIG Landing Bojang. They are: BREAKING NEWS: AIG LANDING BOJANG WOULD TODAY FACE POLICE INVESTIGATORS OVER HIS ALLEGED TIES WITH A SENEGALESE ROBBER; ACCUSED OF ROBBING D16 MILLION DALASIS…

Pa, I wish you could have found out more before publishing these articles. The PRO’s answers to your questions are correct because this story is blown out of proportion. I think there’s a campaign to tarnish the image or destroy the reputation of one of the longest serving and most efficient police commanders in The Gambia. I think Walid Bourgi, the alleged victim of the armed robbery is confusing matters by getting people to send you the false information which you are publishing.

Pa, this is the true story:

After headquarters was alerted by the Senegalese investigators that two mobile phones taken during the robbery of the Bourgi family were found in the possession of Mr Dam Sy, we immediately dispatched ASP Sanusi Darboe and another officer to go and interview Sy in Senegal. Dam Sy told our investigators that he bought the phones from a dealer and that on the day of the alleged robbery he was in fact in Senegal as many alibis would show including the date and times of the entry and exit of his person and his vehicle at the border posts.

Dam Sy explained that he first knew AIG Bojang about four years ago when he arrested him over a crime he was involved in. He said recently while he was in The Gambia he saw Bojang seated with his officers near the Kololi Police Station and he introduced himself to him asked for his mobile telephone number and told him he is a changed man and is now a successful businessman based in Angola.

Mr Sy said later on he bought a car in The Gambia and when he took it to Angola, the police told him it was stolen abroad. He said he then called AIG Bojang to help him find out from the dealer about the origin of the vehicle and that the dealer said he got it from a former female minister and had all the legit papers.

Sy also said Bojang later contacted him after he came across information that he was the target of a plot for scaamming. He said they call each other from time to time whenever he comes to The Gambia or even from abroad. Dam Sy said he had nothing to do with the robbery of the Bourgi family not to talk about AIG Bojang being his accomplice.

Pa this is the story. Just because AIG Bojang and Dam Sy communicate does not mean that he aided Sy in committing any alleged crime. In fact I should not say this but I have to so that your readers can understand. One reason why AIG Bojang is so successful in busting crimes is because he has a network of informants and works with all kinds of people. That’s why we call him Derrick.  Many people do not know that it was AIG Bojang who busted the drugs gang in KMC for which Essa Badjie took all the credit and was promoted by President Jammeh.

It is also totally false that AIG Bojang was summoned before a police investigative panel with regard to the Dam Sy matter.

The statement that AIG Bojang is a bad cop and a hustler is a million miles from the truth. Everyone knows Landing Bojang comes from a very respectable family. His father, grandfather and great grandfathers were kings and are the biggest landowners in Brikama. His mother is a Gaiyene from Banjul and his uncle was a minister and ambassador etc. AIG Bojang’s son is on the verge of signing as a professional footballer in Europe. AIG Bojang is not a cheapskate. Yet despite all these, he has not built mansions or drives flashy cars. This man has busted more drug dealers and criminals than any police officer in The Gambia. If he is really corrupt as your articles seem to portray, he would have been the richest police officer in the country!

Landing Bojang is a modest and content man and his job is everything to him. So your writer really does not know who is AIG Landing Bojang. It is therefore ridiculous for Mr Bourgi and his agents to suggest that he resigns from his three-decade long career on the basis of having a mobile telephone number or communicating with an alleged criminal. That is stupid and trivial. In fact, The Gambia police needs AIG Bojang now more than ever. And Pa, you can take this to the bank, after all the investigations are concluded, AIG Bojang will be found completely clean and innocent. He is competent, he is intelligent, he is very brave and loyal. And that is why all the men who serve under him admire and respect him.

More will come.

Sir, please do not forget to remove my name or else I might get into trouble since it is only the PRO and officers of a certain rank who should talk to the press.

Editors note: The views expressed in this write up do not represent the position of the Freedom Newspaper.

We also reject the author’s false assertion that AIG Bojang has been defamed by this medium. What we reported is the truth and nothing but the truth.

Hiding under anonymity to defend AIG Bojang will not redress the issue. What we expect from any responsible police force, is to come out and tell the public what transpired.  So far, the police haven’t denied what we reported, AIG Bojang himself hasn’t denied what we reported.

The Inspector General of police Abdoulie Sanyang and his command owe it to The Gambian taxpayers to come out and brief us on the pace of the so called investigations.

It is a shame that a faceless officer is putting up a defense for an accused police chief AIG Bojang. Gambia and her people deserve better than this. Be transparent!

Just to let you know, AIG Bojang, like any other Gambian, has the right to reply to what we reported. His command can also write to us officially to state the facts as it contained.

That said, we hope the command will not side with their accused colleague and obstruct justice. Do not kill this case. If that happens, you will hear from us. Rogue and corrupt officers should be purged from the force.

The so called faceless insider, please check with the Serious Crime Unit: They have the audio in which AIG Bojang has been incriminated in the robbery case. No one is making up stories against AIG Bojang. Get that.
