BREAKING NEWS: GAMBIAN COURT GRANTS D200,000 DAMAGES TO A POLICE COMMISSIONER, WHO WAS ASSAULTED BY ONE ASSAN CORR AND TWO OTHERS; AS PRINCIPAL MAGISTRATE NJIE CONVICTS ASSAN CORR!

A Gambian police Commissioner, commanding the prosecution division at the police headquarters in Banjul, has been awarded two hundred thousand dalasis (D200,000) court damages after the court has declared that the police chief had suffered “permanent disfigurement” on his tooth, following an assault he suffered in the hands of one Assan Corr, and two other accused persons, Freedom Newspaper can report. Principal magistrate Pa Modou Njie has ordered Assan Corr to pay Commissioner Abdoulie Sanneh D200,000 compensation before the end of May 2021, failure of which, he ruled that Corr, would serve two years in prison. The magistrate also imposed a fine of D5000 dalasis against Assan Corr, in default, he said, Corr, would five months in jail.

Assan Corr was charged with assaulting Commissioner Abdoulie Sanneh, thereby causing grievous bodily harm. The police Commissioner lost his front tooth during that assault incident. He was briefly hospitalized and released. The incident happened this past April.

When the matter reached court, Assan Corr, decided to plead guilty to the charges. His sentencing was passed today.

Meanwhile, Corr’s co accused persons Malick Kujabi and Ousman Sanyang have pleaded not guilty to the charge of common assault. The duos case has been adjourned to June 16th 2021.
