Fulham are reportedly interested in signing 30-year-old Gambian defender Omar Colley from Serie A club Sampdoria.
According to a report from Samp News 24, Premier League outfit Fulham are looking to sign 30-year-old defender Omar Colley from Serie A club Sampdoria this month.
Apparently, the London club were keen on signing the experienced defender in the summer as well. But they were not willing to pay the asking price of €10 million. Fulham want to Chris Smalling from AS Roma. But the Serie A giants are not prepared to sell the former Manchester United defender this month.
Therefore, the Londoners have decided to make a move for Colley before the transfer window closes. Apparently, the 30-year-old defender could be available for a fee of just €5 million this month. And it remains to be seen whether Fulham are prepared to pay the asking price this time around.
The 30-year-old has established himself as one of the most reliable defenders in Serie A, and he could prove to be a useful addition to Marco Silva’s defence. Fulham have been quite impressive this season and they are currently pushing for European qualification.
They will hope to finish the season strongly. And bringing in the right additions in January will only help them sustain their impressive performances from the first half of the season. Fulham certainly have the finances to pay the €5 million asking price for Colley, and it remains to be seen how the situation develops.
Apparently, the Sampdoria defender has suitors in Serie A as well. But the opportunity to move to the Premier League could be a tempting proposition. The 30-year-old is at the peak of his career and will feel that he is ready to take on any challenge. He has already proven himself in Serie A, and the opportunity to play in the Premier League could be an exciting option for him.
Fulham could definitely improve their squad. And bringing in a reliable defender could help them improve during the second half of the campaign. Meanwhile, Colley has the physical attributes to succeed in English football, and the reported asking price seems like a bargain.
