‘Gambia has 130 cases of AKI’

The minister explained that the total number of surviving children recorded was three; 84 confirmed AKI cases, 50 suspected cases, 62 probable cases and 72 mortalities.

The minster was responding to questions from lawmakers on the situation of the Acute Kidney Injury in the country.

He said that MCA is working with MOH to get an advanced established lab through theWorld Bank.

“We already have a firm doing the drawings; and a firm for construction is being sought. This lab will also include a food quality control component as well. The land is already available and construction work will start soon.

Dr. Samateh also said that “the surviving children are still being followed up. “They are receiving treatment from the health centre. And our agencies are equally in touch with the parents of the surviving children in terms of their welfare.”

“They are being followed, and if there are any children in any critical condition that need overseas treatment, the government will definitely facilitate that,” Minister Samateh said.

He confirmed that Maiden Pharmaceuticals remains blacklisted and banned with all its products.
