It appears that the National People’s Party (NPP) is bracing up for a major party Congress. Reports have it that the Senegalese musical star Wally Seck is among the guests that have been billed to attend the NPP Congress and launching of their new party. The Congress has been scheduled for January 30th.

Wally Seck is widely loved in The Gambia. He has a strong fan base in the impoverished West African nation. His presence in Banjul, would no doubt encourage non-NPP supporters to grace the occasion.

The NPP was set up last year. The party has been drawing a lot of supporters since its formation. It is said to be Gambia’s most popular political party.

The NPP’s main competitor among Gambia’s political parties is Ousainou Darboe’s United Democratic Party. The NPP’s members are mainly former UDP supporters. The party was formed following a fallout between Barrow and Darboe.

It is not clear if Wally Seck would make it to the upcoming NPP Congress. Senegal, a neighboring sister nation of The Gambia, has of recent witnessed spikes in Coronavirus cases. The French speaking nation has declared a nationwide curfew to fight the deadly virus.
