The Gambia is set to witness a thrilling showcase of talent as its accomplished taekwondo athletes, Alasan Ann and Maria Sainabou Marchlinski, gear up to represent the nation in the highly anticipated African Taekwondo Championship.
The championship, scheduled to take place in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, on the 5th and 6th of November 2023, promises to be an exhilarating event with the participation of renowned athletes from across the continent.
Seventeen-year-old Maria Sainabou Marchlinski, an upcoming talent in the taekwondo sphere, is all set to make her mark on the international stage donning the Gambian colors for the first time, following her recent switch from the USA to her homeland.
Alongside Maria, the renowned Alasan Ann, affectionately known as the Gambian Goliath, is poised to leave a lasting impression at the championship, marking his second representation of The Gambia following his commendable performance in last year’s African Championship, where he secured the bronze medal.
Alasan, competing in the +87 kg senior category, brings a wealth of experience and skill to the ring, with his formidable presence and remarkable technique captivating audiences in past competitions.
