HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE BEEN VACCINATED AND HOW MANY VACCINES ARE IN STOCK?

QUESTION OF THE DAY

More than a million people in the Gambia are above 18 and are expected to be vaccinated. Hence in order to have all the adult population vaccinated they need to have a stock of over a million vaccines. Interestingly enough there is demand to be vaccinated twice and even thrice. If each adult is to be vaccinated twice or thrice, the Gambia still needs more than two million vaccines.

Vaccines ought to be produced in each country if the principle of health for all is to be a reality. Health should be accessible to all. Basic health services should be available to all. Commercialization of health should be a luxury and not a necessity for survival. The African countries need to establish a vaccine production pool for all countries to contribute to finance the pool and become entitled to have the vaccines for its population.
