The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) had turned down the appeal filed by the Gambia Moral Congress (GMC), Citizens’ Alliance (CA) and four other presidential aspirants against the commission’s decision to reject their nomination.

“The commission has turned down the appeal of six aspirants- the Gambia Moral Congress (GMC), the Citizens’ Alliance (CA), the Gambia Action Party (GAP), the Alliance for National Re-orientation and Development (ANRD), Papa Faal, Independent Aspirant and Alhaji Mamadi Kurang, also an independent aspirant. They have filed an appeal and yesterday the commission reviewed it and turned down their appeal,” Pa Khan, the Director of Communication at IEC told Kerr Fatou.

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) on Saturday announced the rejection of the nomination of the mentioned presidential aspirants to run in the December 4 presidential election.

The aspirants filed an appeal following the commission’s disapproval of their bid for their non-compliance to section 42 of the electoral act 2009.
