The Gambia judiciary will hold a donor conference from the 3rd and 4th of November 2021. The donor conference is part of the Judiciary strategic plan of 2021 to 2025 to provide the roadmap and a framework for enhancing the capacity of the judiciary to deliver an effective and efficient system for upholding the rule of law.

The strategic plan for 2021 to 2025 comprises eight critical goals set out to facilitate the attainment of the objectives set by the judicial arm of the government.

One of the goals is to strengthen the independence of the judiciary and its autonomy, upgrade and expand physical infrastructure, improve the work environment, and restructure and strengthen organizational and institutional capacity, among others.

The conference will attract donors both domestically and internationally.

Muhammed Ndure, a Senior Legal Researcher, said the invited International organizations include UNDP, World Bank, Commonwealth, and other embassies like India, Spain, European Union, Germany, Qatar, and Turkey.

“We believe with the right fundings and support from stakeholders, the judiciary would be able to achieve all these eight goals within four years,” added Mr. Ndure.

These strategic plans were conceived for better dispensation of justice and to guard the judiciary to another level.

Isatou Dabo, the press liaison officer for the conference, said the conference expectations are very high. There is optimism to achieve the target for the conference.

It is the first time the judiciary is organizing an International donors conference in The Gambia. The conference will raise funds to enable the judiciary to implement its activities under the strategic plan. The meeting is at the International Conference Center.
