Staff of the Kanifing Municipal Council’s (KMC) Welfare Association through their lawyer, Sheriff Kumba Jobe, have demanded from CEO Sainabou Martin Sonko, Bakary Jawo and Buba Bass, refund of the money they obtained from a bank without authority.
According to the Association, the three persons solicited, applied and secured a loan of twelve million Dalasi (D12,000,000) from Agib Bank Gambia, further alleging that they entered this agreement without the knowledge, approval and consent of the general membership of the KMC Staff Association.
The Association indicated that the Loan was cancelled by the Bank at the request of the KMC because the three made Council guarantor of the loan facility without its knowledge, consent, authority or approval. The staff further indicate that at the time of the cancellation of the Loan facility, the trio already caused the withdrawal of one million and forty-six thousand, four hundred and forty nine dalasi, and fifty five butut (D1,046,449.55).
The Association stated in their letter of demand that the Bank had already taken from KMC’s Account because they are the guarantor of the said loan facility. According to the Association, the KMC is also recovering the said money from the Staff Welfare Association, and that the amount that the trio took from the Bank, was never expended on any activity(ies) of the Staff Association, but was instead diverted for their personal use.
The Association asked the three to reimburse the money they took or risk being sued for the recovery of the above amount, and that they want this to be done within seven days from the date of the receipt of their demand letter.
The association threatens to proceed with a lawsuit against the three, if they fail to refund the money.
