Sports minister Bakary Badjie on Monday met a delegation comprising executive members of the Sports Journalists’ Association of the Gambia (SJAG) in his office. After touching base with the association, its history and objectives, the minister expressed surprise that the ministry of sport has not been supportive of the Association’s activities, promising that henceforth that will change under his watch.

“The SJAG is an integral partner in sports development therefore anything we do together is more like a collaboration to uplift our sports and we are in that together. I will not say my ministry will support SJAG but instead, it will be a commitment from us to be part of SJAG’s activities,” Minister Badjie said.

Musa Sise, President of the Sports Journalists’ Association briefed the minister on some of the activities of the association and the national teams’s historic African Cup of Nation qualification.

“This is the first time we are going to the continent’s biggest senior tournament and the SJAG is intending to make a very visible presence as the country’s community of sport press”, Musa Sise said.

He further told the minister about the association’s forth coming 11th National Sports Awards which he said is being planned to be the biggest awards ever because it comes at time of a landmark achievement in the country’s sports history.

The minister was also briefed on the relationship between the Senegalese Sport press and the SJAG and how the sister associations have been supportive of each other’s activities.

The delegation to the minister includes the first vice president of SJAG Uthman Jeng and two other executive members.
