Pierre Bah, who was speaking recently, emphasised that illegal bush fires and rampant cutting down of tress have a negative impact on the country’s socio-economic development.

He observed that bush fires and deforestation always lead to low rainfall, thereby contributing to environmental hazards thus putting the lives of wildlife in the area at risk.

To this end, Niani chief warned people of his district to desist from such illegal acts, further calling on alkalolu, Village Development Committees (VDCs) and forestry officers to be vigilant and always safeguard the environment.

“Protecting the environment is our collective duty to ensure we have enough rainfall to boost agriculture, live in a good climatic condition and restore there wildlife to attract tourists.”
