Basiru Darboe, a candidate in the National People’s Party (NPP)’s primary for Brikama Area Council, has announced that he is joining the opposition United Democratic Party after losing his party’s primary.
“When I resigned, what I said was I am a politician and any political party that wants to work with me have the right to come and discuss with me. After that, our councilor Botto Bojang and our Tujereng Chairman Kafu Bayo and also their ward chairman, Pa Jabang, formed a delegation. They came and told me, they wanted me to join them to work with them. Lamin Manneh, who is responsible for UDP Diaspora affairs, also called me and also convinced me to join them. The election is coming and nomination has started, they (UDP) don’t want to waste time because they don’t want others to come before them,” he told King Fm Radio.
Basiru Darboe was among the National People’s Party (NPP) primary candidates for the West Coast Region’s Brikama Area Council chairman. He garnered zero votes in that primary election, which was marred by allegations of National Executive interference by one of the leading contenders, Ahmed Gitteh.
