The Three hundred and sixty Imams from the Kanifing Municipality and Banjul who paid a courtesy call on President Adama Barrow have been told to help preach peace and unity among Gambians as December presidential polls draw nearer.

President Barrow said on his page: “I humbly received over 360 Imams from the Kanifing Municipality and Banjul at the State House this afternoon. As influential figures in society, I called on them to utilise their status to preach peace and unity amongst the people. Imams continue to be respected opinion leaders in our society, and as such, people listen to their words of wisdom.

“They have a crucial role in uniting the people and advocating for the remedying of issues affecting society. As the COVID pandemic is still with us and surging, the Imams, too, should add their voice to the campaign against the pandemic.

“Having listened to their concerns, I assured them that my government’s policies are geared towards impacting the lives and livelihoods of the citizens, thus as imams, they are equally affected. We will review their concerns and develop the appropriate policies to address them accordingly,” he added.

Meanwhile, a youth group, which later called on him at his office, thanked and praised the president and his government for bringing developments to the country.

National Youth Council, President Barrow called on the youths to make good use of the opportunities provided by the Youth Enterprise Development Fund to venture into innovative business enterprises.

Stressing his government’s commitment to the development of youths, the President encouraged youths to take ownership of the Government’s programmes and initiatives for personal growth, notably the sports development levy and investments in the National Enterprise Development Initiative (NEDI) that fund youth programs in the country.

Ousman Fatty, chairman of the National Youth Council, commended President Barrow and his Government’s plan to develop youth and sports. “The youths appreciate Government’s youth program, particularly the sports levy and the NEDI program to help young entrepreneurs.
