Following his exit from the Belgian side Gents at the end of last season, Gambian international Sulayman Marrehhas found a new direction after signing a year’s contractwith Israeli premier league side Hapoel Haifa.

The deal provides an option of a further year with the club, The Voice gathered.

Hapoel Haifa announced the deal would be perfected after a medical examination as the former Samger protégé arrived in Israel over the weekend.

His new club said:“Marreh made 30 appearances for The Gambia national team and was key in a historic campaign as they sensationally reached the quarterfinals of the African Cup of Nations two years ago. He also played 11 league matches for Gent last season and was part of the 2021/22 Belgian Cup-winning team. He also played in Eupen in the Belgian premier league and in Almeria, Valladolid and Granada in Spain.”

According to sources, Club owner Yoav Katz personallytook charge of the negotiations.

“We are happy to add another quality player and this time to the main squad. Sulayman has a respectable international record and will help us achieve our objectives in the year we will reach a century year since our formation,” Katz said.

Hapoel Haifa is meanwhile comfortably seated fourth on the Israeli league table, earning four points from two matches.
