Foroyaa Newspaper has been advising that good governance must be guided by the rule of law. Properties require investment to be able to build businesses as well as households. This is why the Constitution is emphatic that no property should be taken by government for public use without compensation.
The Constitution is explicit and the Attorney General as the legal adviser of government should inform Cabinet that compensation should be paid to those whose properties have been demolished. We therefore hope that before any demolition exercise is taken, a contractual assessment should be made of what government intends to give the owners before demolition takes place and whatever is in the agreement should be immediately implemented.
