Three Arrested For “Trying To Smuggle” Suspected Drugs In Mile 2

The Drug Law Enforcement Agency (DLEAG) has announced the arrest of three Gambians (2 males and one female) for allegedly trying to smuggle suspected prohibited and controlled drugs in mile 2 central prison for prisoners.

“Three Gambian nationals (two males and one female) were taken into custody on Wednesday 12 January 2022 around 12:00 hours GMT onwards as they tried to smuggle prohibited and controlled drugs into the Mile 2 Central Prison in Banjul.

“[Suspect 1 name withheld], 22 years old and a resident of Latrikunda, [Suspect 2 name withheld], 19 years old and a resident of Serrekunda and [suspect 3, a female, name withheld] , 20 years old and a resident of Lamin were arrested when prison officers discovered some quantities of cannabis and clonazepam in three different bottles of body lotion creams during a routine search,” DLEAG said in a statement on Thursday.

The trio are said to have brought the suspected products for their associates incarcerated at the State Central Prison. 

“They wrapped the said quantities of suspected cannabis and clonazepam with nylon bags and hid them in three different bottles. After conducting a thorough search, the prison officers discovered some quantities of suspected cannabis and sixteen (16) tablets of clonazepam,” the statement added.

The agency commended the act and thanked the officers of The Gambia Prison Service for their “vigilance, commitment and dedication” to duty.
