The donated items included secondhand clothing, electrical materials and detergents amongst others. The donation seeks to improve conditions of the patients and the hospital in general.
Speaking at the handing over ceremony, Njilan Senghore, managing director, Trust Bank Limited said, events like that have far reaching positive consequences on the lives of many and resonates with their corporate social responsibility objective of “bringing hope where there is despair”.
Their corporate social responsibility programme, she said, is grounded on the principles of sharing and caring. “We believe this donation is a great way to give back to our communities.”
A mental health challenge, she added, is one of the most critical health problems and amongst the least understood. “It affects more and more people and causes untold suffering to the families of the afflicted. It is a drawback on our human resource and constitutes significant distress on families and communities.”
She reiterated Trust Bank’s commitment to further strengthen their partnership with the hospital for the benefit of the people of The Gambia.
Deputy Chief Matron Haddy Lemon, described the gesture as timely, thanking Trust Bank for coming to their aid with many valuable materials that she said the hospital needs. She assured that the materials would be put in to good use
Omar Bojang, departmental matron at Tanka Tanka Psychiatric Hospital, equally commended Trust Bank for the partnership and support they have been rendering to the patients and staff of Tanka Tanka. “This has been very wonderful and we can never pay your back,” he said.
