Twelve People Arrested By Police On Charges Of Illegally Circumventing Electricity Connections

The Gambia Police Force, working in partnership with NAWEC, has reported the apprehension of a dozen individuals who, over the course of a week-long operation, were caught engaging in illicit activities involving the unauthorized diversion of electrical connections and manipulation of cash power meters.

“These arrests were made in various locations, including Mandinary, Busumballa, Wellingara, Serekunda market, Sanyang, Kanifing South, Lamin village, Fajikunda, Wellingara, Latrikunda Sabiji, and Jambanjelly,” the police announced.

According to the police, the detained individuals have been granted bail. Meanwhile, technicians Musa Jobe and Bubacarr Seedy Camara, who are suspected of involvement in the unlawful activities, are actively assisting with the police’s ongoing investigation.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that they charged their clients between D1500.00 and D15,000.00. In light of this, the public is reminded that such activities deprive NAWEC of the revenue necessary for their daily operations and maintenance, which, in turn, affects the quality of services they can provide. These actions are considered criminal offenses, and the police urge the public to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station as this operation continues,” the police said.
