51 Gambian soldiers are now qualified for manoeuvring tech armoured infantry combat vehicles. The newly capacitated Gambian army personnel received their certificates on Friday, March 19th, in Thiès from the Senegalese commander of the Military Zone No. 7. The training is part of the military cooperation between Senegal and The Gambia.

The Gambian soldiers are thus trained in the operation of these machines of war, handling the weapons on board, in shooting and especially in the embarked-disembarked combat, and in the maintenance of the armoured vehicle’s equipment.

An official ceremony marking the end of the training was held at the training ground on Friday in which the Senegalese army honoured the newly trained Gambian soldiers.

On behalf of the Gambian military command, Navy Captain Dembo Jarju said, “We thank Senegal for training our personnel to this professional level. All of us have an obligation to keep peace at home. We remain key players in this peace sustenance effort within The Gambia, the region, Africa, and beyond. We appreciate the support that is offered to us by The Senegalese forces. It is not the first training between the Senegalese and the Gambian military. Recently 3000 personnel of the Gambia Armed forces have been trained here. And we have many Gambian military personnel attending officers training in various military academies in Senegal“.

The Gambian soldiers began training on January 30th at Senegal’s Army National Training Center called “Cpt Gormack Niang” in Mont-Rolland (Thiès region).
