At the dawn of the Barrow administration a group of military persons were charged for plotting a coup. Twelve of them stood for trial before a court- martial charged with treason and other charges. Four of them were acquitted and discharged while eight were convicted. The eight convicted soldiers appealed to the Court of Appeal against their conviction. The Court of Appeal quashed the conviction on treason and completely freed three of them. The conviction of the remaining five on various lesser charges was upheld and these five were sentenced to prison.
